When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I play music and work.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
I don't recall a specific story but I remember making my own comic books when I was young.
What is your writing process?
I just kind of throw ideas out there when they are fresh and stop when they stop flowing. Later on I come back and sift through the notes and combine them to make something more complete. I try not to over work or over think things.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
I remember more just being so happy that I could read The Cat in the Cat on my own once I learned how.
How do you approach cover design?
More or less the same way I approach writing and music, just throw ideas around until something seems right and then just stick with it.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
I like stories that have a strong singular protagonist.
Describe your desk
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Toronto. For me I guess it was just the feeling of isolation in a large city and the contradictions that come with that.
When did you first start writing?
Its something I've always done just not always ambitiously.
What's the story behind your latest book?
A friend kept asking me when I was going to print the lyrics to all the Crawling Quiet songs I've recorded. I thought that if I was going to do that I should also included everything else that I've got that is any good.
