Interview with Marlo Louise Muller

When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
My time is spent juggling raising my three sons, spending quality time with my husband, working and catching up with friends and family. As my husband is Balinese we spend a lot of time overseas in his homeland, doing much the same thing as we do in Australia. I have three step daughters who I love as if I gave birth to them. When we are in Bali we spend all our time with them, doing school runs, practising english and enjoying our time together. I write in between all of this.
When did you first start writing?
I have always written in a journal, short stories and poems. It wasn't until 2008 that I embarked on writing a full length novel. I experienced a moment that led to me writing Jacinta's Destiny. I was on holiday in Bali with girlfriends, prior to meeting my husband. We had been sitting at the beach, enjoying the amazing sunset when I suddenly experienced a daydream. Then the tears started and they didn't stop for two weeks. I had returned to Australia and my doctor had become involved as I could not explain why suddenly I would start crying and could not stop. Then one day, it just hit me. I was to write the daydream I experienced in Bali down on paper. And Jacinta's Destiny was born.
What's the story behind your latest book?
My latest book is also based in Bali, a fiction story interweaving Balinese traditions and culture. Isabella's Journey will be finished soon.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
The greatest joy as a author I have experienced is when complete strangers message me to express how much they love my work. And when they message me to find out when my next novel will be finished as they are desperate to read it.
Who are your favorite authors?
Vince Flynn
Jude Deveraux
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
My husband and my kids.
What is your writing process?
I don't have a formal process to follow. My book is always in my mind and when I have a new idea, I write it down in a notepad I always have with me. My life is busy so when I have time, I write.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Facebook has been the most effective marketing tool for me. When I first published Jacinta's Destiny, friends posted my link on their walls, enabling their friends to see it. I post a link to my book on pages that are Bali based, which attracts a lot of readers.
Describe your desk
Messy
What are you working on next?
I have a few drafts active at the moment. However, the time has come to focus solely on Isabella's Journey.
