Interview with Marsha Hankins

What moved you to start writing?
I loved writing stories when I was young. As I got older the storytelling disappeared, but I discovered I had a talent for explaining complex subjects in a way that people could understand. When I began teaching about higher consciousness and Oneness, the comment I got most often was that my explanations made sense. Writing is an extension of what I have been doing in the classroom, and I love it.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I definitely explored my options before choosing to go indie. My overwhelming reason was to maintain control of my content. I have several friends with successful books who had switched from their publishing houses to self-publishing because the editors insisted on making changes that altered the meaning of the material. This is not good for any author, but it is a big problem when trying to clarify spiritual concepts. However, being an indie author should not be taken lightly. Every book needs content and copy editing, good cover design, and lots of feedback. Not many of us are good at all things, so going indie means finding help from other talented people to create a great book.
What other books do you recommend on higher consciousness?
I love “Autobiography of Yogi,” “The Life and Teachings of the Masters of the Far East,” “An Ascension handbook,” and “A Course in Miracles.” These are only a few, or course, but they are some of the greats.
