Interview with Martin Peterson

What is your e-reading device of choice?
I really enjoy using Kobo. I got it for Christmas a few ago and I haven't found the need to upgrade or change brands.
Describe your desk
My current desk is a very heavy big solid chunk of wood. Atop of my desk sits a laptop notebook stand to raise my Dell laptop. I also have a Dell 3 piece speaker set complete with a woofer. The notebook stand was purchased on the wish app and the speakers are almost fifteen years old. A notebook usually sits to my right so I can take notes as I write.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I lived in a few places while growing up. I was born in the province of Manitoba and we even spent a year in British Columbia. I now call Peterborough, Ontario home. I attended high school in Peterborough and met Chris Ellis and we became fast friends. Computers were just getting big in the nineties so we found ourselves spending our lunches inside playing computer games and writing. In other words, it was more the people I hung around that influenced my writing rather than the city.
When did you first start writing?
I started writing tiny stories in elementary school, but it really didn't 'click' until I was in high school.
What's the story behind your latest book?
My last book was written for pure enjoyment. It was written with the mindset of a comic book. I even used my hometown as influences in the book.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
Simply, lack of knowledge and lack of contacts. Did some research and have found it easier to be a self-publishing author.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
The excitement that the readers get from my stories!!! I feel that my story is complete when the readers start getting attached to the characters.
What do your fans mean to you?
My fans are the reason I write. Without them, I have no reason to write.
What are you working on next?
I am working on three books right now. Each book is part of The Bullets and Blades trilogy that I am co-writing with Chris Ellis. These stories follow the characters Slasher and Knightshade and their military teams. The series currently has a few spinoffs directly related to the trilogy and each book is as exciting to write as the one that came before it.
Who are your favorite authors?
My favorite authors? I really enjoy R.A. Salvatore's books. I enjoy following the life of Drizz't and his friends and enemies.
I have also read the majority of the Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan. Salvatore-second, Jordan-third. My favorite, however, is my son. My son is just experimenting right now, but his excitement is through the roof.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I enjoy spending my time with my three boys either doing sports or just spending time together.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes, it was in grade three and it was the Thundercats. It is so bad and barely makes sense, but I love it.
