Interview with Mary Farve

What are your five favorite books, and why?
As I write pseudo this is awkward to say, but I love intergenerational family sagas. Especially if they involve romance! Isabelle Allende's the House of the Spirits is fantastic. Colleen McCullough's The Thorn Birds is also excellent. Roots: An Intergenerational Family Saga is classic. Well, these all are! I'm also quite, quite partial to Jane Eyre, and one of the novels it inspired, Wide Sargasso Sea.
What do you read for pleasure?
Quite a bit of erotica, if you'll pardon the double entendre!
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I have a first generation Kindle Fire that was a birthday gift years ago from an ex. I'd actually love to replace it. Besides eradicating bad memories, a new e-reader would help me get over the fact that Amazon permanently banned my first book!
When did you first start writing?
In high school, my girlfriends and I passed notes in a secret, shared notebook. We ended up writing long letters to each other, summaries of our days - anything that caught our interest. We even pasted in little pictures. I fell in love with narrative through that notebook; it's definitely the reason I've become a writer.
What are you working on next?
Right now, I'm working on completing the Interrelated Series. I'm amazed at the consistent level of interest people have shown in Book I: Warm-Up. It's been shown a lot of love on Tumblr; and it's gotten about 20 downloads a day since I decided to make it permanently free on Smashwords. I've gotten lots of compliments from fans, and even a five-star review or two on Amazon. It does quite well on all retailors, actually. So, I'm quite proud to keep banging away at everything Aubrey and Max - pun intended.
What's the story behind your latest book?
The Interrelated Series centers on Aubrey's experiences with her adopted family. Her brother Max, her dad, Tim - that's about as far as I've planned so far. I'm thinking of focusing on her mom and sis in later books, and the overall family dynamic in the final book.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
I enjoy sharing my fantasies with readers. It's all about sharing an experience. I'd love to hear from fans about where they'd like to see the series go, and write their fantasies into subsequent novels.
What do your fans mean to you?
Oh, absolutely everything! We have a mutual, validating relationship. I love to chat with all of you, and share ideas.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Well, working. I have a very draining job, but it's essential and rewarding. I also love to shop, and play and watch football.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Usually, I'm an Amazon-searcher. Occasionally, I'll check out Book Hippo. But lately, I've liked the Smashwords filtered search, too. Only seemed right to start patronizing the site that's treated me so well.
