Interview with May MacDonald

What are you working on next?
I am currently writing another thriller which is titled 'Human Pizza'. The story takes place in Vancouver and involves Indian culture.

The research required for this book has taking me to places that I have never been and exposed me to a culture that I never knew existed. I hope to bring many of my readers along and share in my journey.
Who are your favorite authors?
There are so many great writers in this world of fantasy. That said, I really enjoy history based novel as well as real life type stories with a hint of science fiction.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
To write of course! Afterwards I continue to develop gymnastic training programs so I can help build future champions.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I love to travel, with my husband, often off the beaten path. These trips also inspire me to write about diverse cultures, with a little artistic license of course.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Sure I do, because I haven't completed it yet. It is a true story based on my life. The story chronicles a trip that my husband and I took, after his first retirement, down to Belize to build a small eco-resort. It is actually pretty humorous, even though there are some painful memories.
What is your writing process?
Typically, some real life news or experience piques my interest. Once I focus on that interest I just develop a fictional story that leads up to the incident and then beyond.
How do you approach cover design?
I have a vision, based on my story, and then I have my son create the artwork. The cover ends up being a fairly accurate depiction of my vision.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
Kindle.
Describe your desk
Everything needs to be neatly laid out and I need to be comfortable. Sometimes I take a break and just enjoy the view out the window.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
Trying to share my experiences and imagination. This has proven a wonderful challenge, recently, as I am trying to create dialogue in my second language.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Smashwords will allow me to share my story's with a much wider audience.
