Interview with Melanie Chase

Describe your desk
A bit messy. It usually has a cup of tea and bottle of water. I also have painkillers cause I have headaches pretty often.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I'm actually with my parents still...
The area I live in is really... Boring. I think a lot of my writing is based on what I wish we had. What isn't written out but written down somewhere is based off of my imaginary roommates.
The stories I write about depression, self harm, sexuality, etc. are based off my own life.
When did you first start writing?
Technically, 3rd grade. I didn't start writing any of it anywhere to be read until 6th grade though, when I found Wattpad.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
My mother's loud voice. My girlfriend also helps a bit.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Reading or Gaming. Usually Minecraft or whatever I've bought on Steam.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
The first actual book I ever read was BFG was Ronald Dahl. It really helped get me interested in reading. Other books I've read since have helped narrow down my interests.
How do you approach cover design?
I don't, anyone willing to make me a cover is a saint.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
iPad for now, I really want a Kindle Fire.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Seeing people have actually read what I write. It's really cool to see people leave feedback or tell me how I can improve.
