Interview with Melody Jerva

Published 2015-04-03.
How do you approach cover design?
The cover for Ella's Gifts was actually a prize from "The Heart of the West" writing contest. The designer was Kelli Ann Morgan. She was great to work with!
What are your five favorite books, and why?
Wow, that's a tough one. I would say "Hopeless" by Colleen Hoover. The way that woman writes a twist! Whew. She can make me laugh and cry in the same chapter sometimes. Second would be "Wallbanger" by Alice Clayton. She has wicked smart wit that one. Third would be "Beautiful Bastard" by Christina Lauren. Those two know how to write HOT scenes. Fourth would be "If I Were You" by Lisa Renee Jones. Two words, window scene. The intricate twists that she created for this series is amazing. Last, but not least, would be "Nothing Left to Lose" by Kirsty Moseley. This was one of the first books that I read in a long line of novels and it has never left me.
What do you read for pleasure?
Romance, duh. My tastes run the gambit from S&M, to sweet and funny. I think my favorite are romantic suspense.
Describe your desk
Messy.
What's the story behind your latest book?
Ella's Gifts all stemmed from a dream I had, or should I say nightmare. No spoilers, so I'll just say my dream was the entirety of chapter 8. I'm a home health nurse, so you could probably say that there may be an underlying fear there.
What are you working on next?
Next up is the continuation of "The Badges of Boston". The working title is "The Impressionist". This one features Ella's roommate, Jess.
Who are your favorite authors?
Colleen Hoover, Lisa Renee Jones, Jamie McGuire, Silvia Day, Jessica Park and Agatha Christie.
