Interview with Micah Penn

What motivated you to become an indie author?
Ease of access. The first task that a writer has to accomplish after finishing a work is to get people to read what he or she has written. The rise of online bookstores has opened a door for anyone who is serious about reaching those audiences that might connect with their works. It is a simpler process overall and very encouraging for first time publishers like me.
What are you working on next?
The real battle of Armageddon. I hope to capture the utter reality of the fiercest armed conflict that the Earth will ever see through a fictionalized story. But to make clear that it is not the last war on Earth. There will be one more rebellion after it.
What do you read for pleasure?
Magazine articles and newspaper stories capture my interests more often than not. I tend to like currents events and history. I guess those are actually the same thing, huh.
What's the story behind your latest book?
I was told a story, that is said to be true, about the founder of a particular nationwide church association. It's said that he, a Black American Pentecostal preacher, was confronted by members of the Ku Klux Klan who attempted to disrupt one of his services. His response to them is said to have been divinely inspired and caused the Klan members to run for their lives! This story so inspired me that I began to ask the question, what would happen if all the Christian churches united and be began to do as Jesus said..."These signs shall follow those who believe..."
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up just outside of Atlanta, Ga. when most of the U.S was still segregated by law or by custom. But since I grew up in an all Black neighborhood where Black men and women had their own businesses, and there were Black teachers and principals, and of course, Black ministers who did almost everything for their churches...very strong capable men, my lead characters in my stories are Black Americans.
When did you first start writing?
I started writing in earnest after being given the opportunity to write for my church newsletter.
