Interview with Michael Hadley

Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in a small town called Swinton in South Yorkshire. It's quite a country side place with a lot of open space and a lot of woodland areas. I used to travel through them and always had an amazing imagination and so fantasy writing was a way to go for me.
When did you first start writing?
That's a tough one, it was many years back, I don't really remember when I started as such. At first it was just a hobby that entertained me and eventually I grew to love it and so earlier this year I decided to pour my heart in to my dream and take the leap to try and do what I love for a living.
What do your fans mean to you?
My fans, well, they mean the world to me, they're people who join me on my journeys and go through it with me. They read my stories and tell me about what they liked about it, who they hated and what they didn't like about it and it fuels me. I have the ability to create so much in a fictional reality but if I can create some legitimate non-fiction happiness and wonder, it would be a marvellous thing.
What's the story behind your latest book?
Well my first book Legends of Midlocke: Nyerta was more in the hero's standpoint where as my latest book focuses more on the grim side of Midlocke, the dark side where the reality of the people who live in that world shows its self and the monsters and demons that inhabit the land show their faces. It's a collection of tales told from a travellers point of view.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I love writing, you know? For me it was something I really wanted to do. It was a time where I could sit down and create a world around me where I am in control and the adventures I could have were limitless.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
I'm sure it will contribute greatly to my success. Well, I'm hoping so haha
What are you working on next?
Well, the second book to Legends of Midlocke is still very much in its early stages and i also have many other projects started, some further along than the others. I guess i'll just have to let it all play out and see what happens haha i am not great at organization unfortunately
