Interview with Michelle Barclay

Published 2015-04-25.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
It's the biggest cliche a writer could possibly pull out of her ass, but my husband and my family.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Planning to write, hanging out with my family and entertaining myself with my husband.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Oh, a lot of ways. I look for more books from authors I enjoy, check out Good Reads suggestions, dig up popular fiction when I hear it mentioned . . .
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
I remember the first story I remember writing. It was about the ghost of a witch that haunted a house. I don't remember much more than that, but my little sister might. The oldest story I know I wrote, but don't remember writing, was about what my shoes do at night when I go to sleep. It was even laminated and bound with yarn.
What is your writing process?
Decide I am going to write something, start writing, panic, organize, write, panic, re-organize, etc.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
That's impossible. It changes all the time. However, here are my current top five in no particular order:

"To Kill a Mockingbird" by Harper Lee
"Farenheit 451" by Ray Bradbury
"Eyes of the Dragon" by Stephen King
"The Ghost Pirates" by William Hope Hodgson
The Collected Sherlock Holmes stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
What do you read for pleasure?
Fiction and comedy novels, blog posts, tweets, etc.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
Kindle Paper White
When did you first start writing?
I started writing before I can remember, as evidenced by stories my mother saved.
Who are your favorite authors?
Stephen King, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, William Hope Hodgson (even with his overuse of the word funk), Anne Rice, Ray Bradbury, Kurt Vonnegut, Harper Lee and many more.
