Interview with E. Kearney

How did you happen to write the Generation Series?
The more I read about the Millennials, the more curious I became about generational patterns, and these four fast-paced booklets are guides to the interests, needs, and value of today’s multi-generational workforce. . As a business owner, I know that no one in business can afford to be without insight into the needs, skills, and behavioral patterns of the four generations -- Traditionalists, Baby Boomers, Generation X, and Millennials -- that constitute the current workforce. These booklets provide the readers with an insight into the four generations' needs, interests, and potential contributions to the workplace. Although a great deal of recent attention has been focused on the newest generation, the Millennials, very little attention has been given to the impact of having four generations in the workplace at the same time. Yet, success in business today demands that these four generations be understood, coached, and their talents utilized both as individuals and as team members. In order to achieve corporate business goals, business leaders must be able to blend the talents of these four generations into a working unit whose members understand and respect each other.Although these works have just become available to the public, the information shared in them was the foundation of programs presented by Dr. Kearney to staffs such as those at the University of San Francisco’s Medical school, corporations such as Dun and Bradstreet, college classes such as those at the University of California at Berkeley, and organizations such as ASTRA Women’s Business Alliance.
What prompted you to write THE COMPETITIVE EDGE?
Over the years I have been asked by the owners of small and new companies to share with them some of the things I learned by working with the world's major corporations. My book, THE COMPETITIVE EDGE, is the result and hopefully will prove helpful to my readers.

My latest book, THE COMPETITIVE EDGE, provides a detailed guide to those starting a business or striving to build one. This fast-paced commentary provides my readers with tips and guidelines that company founders can use to build their success plans, select the best staffs, and create the business culture that provides the foundation that sets them apart from their competitors. This step-by-step guide provides the success tips needed to plan, build, and expand a company from its point of inception to the stage where it gains a competitive edge in its industry.

Readers are provided with a list of the elements that every successful business founder must consider when developing and implementing a sound business plan. In addition, guidelines are provided for avoiding some of the major pitfalls a company is likely to encounter and some of the measures that have provided the foundations of the world’s most successful companies. In addition to having founded a very successful business and winning awards as an author and lecturer. I have worked with some of the world's outstanding companies (e.g., Dun and Bradstreet, Borg Warner, Xerox, Waste Management, and Rolls Royce) and had ample opportunities to study the approaches that they used to ensure their success. Many of those approaches can be used by the founders of start-ups and smaller businesses to ensure their own success.
