Interview with Miriam Woelke

Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
I remember my very first book and it was, what else could it be, a children's book. About a windmill and some kids.
It didn't have any impact but I still remember it.:-)
How do you approach cover design?
I am flexible.
Meaning, I choose a cover from my thousands of photos.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
I cannot list any particular names, as there are many. One would be definitely Stephen King's IT. However, I also like Lee Child's "Jack Reacher" stories. However, I am not only into fiction but read a lot of science and Jewish religious books. It really depends on the mood.
What do you read for pleasure?
Crime, Agatha Christie, Lee Child, Stephen King ...
Sometimes Scifi.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I have a Kindle app on my laptop.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
My blogs, I suppose. I am a really bad marketeer because I don't want to bother people.
Describe your desk
Small and in order. I clean it at least once a day, as I hate sticky desks and computer keyboards.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Germany and it does influence my fiction stories in regard of characters descriptions and mentality. It is much harder to create a character who has nothing to do with Germany.
When did you first start writing?
Already back in elementary school.
What's the story behind your latest book?
It will be a novel with true background and details from Torah and Talmud.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I just like writing and have written a lot of stories and texts over the years. I never bothered sending anything to a publishing company but started a blog instead.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Not yet because I am just getting started.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Being part of a different world and I really much enjoy this. It is called IMAGINATION and sometimes it is good to "get away" for a little while. :-)
What do your fans mean to you?
I always feel obligated. I grew up in Germany but I don't live there anymore, but "Obligation" is a German character trait.
What are you working on next?
A German crime fiction and an English novel where a person is becoming part of a biblical event.
Who are your favorite authors?
Stephen King, Lee Child, various scientific authors, Ray Bradbury, Agatha Christie, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Jules Verne, Edgar Allen Poe and Lovecraft.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
I am an early bird and I love getting up because I am longing for a cup of coffee.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Actually reading a lot. Riding my bike, walking or watching good movies.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Actually through Amazon.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes, it was about my school.
What is your writing process?
I am not counting words or characters but just write whatever comes into my mind.
Why do you not follow a certain genre?
Because I like trying out different things and different genres.
