Interview with Miss Mae

Published 2015-10-23.
When did you first start writing?
LOL, this is funny. When I was about ten years old, some friends came to visit. We sat around for a little while, wondering what we could do to amuse ourselves. Someone mentioned we act out like a TV show and since I was an avid reader of Nancy Drew and Donna Parker, I volunteered to write our "skit". It was probably all of 5 or 6 pages and I titled it Midnight Horror... but we had to end at 8 p.m. (school the next day, you know!) and the amateurish writing was pretty much of a horror too.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
No, I can't remember the first one I read, but I do recall at being at only maybe 4 or 5 when my mother told the stories of Goldilocks and the three bears. What fun!
What's the story behind your latest book?
Ah, happy to share this news! As Miss Mae, I'm an award winning romantic mystery novelist. Absolutely adore mysteries, and if you sprinkle in a bit of romance -- well, I'm happier than a bullfrog gulping down mayflies.

But I'm also M.M., a not so serious author. And I'm having so much fun as M.M. Under this pseudonym, I create sweet, crazy, bizarre, ridiculous, and FUN tales of childish --and for those folks not afraid to "feeling" child-like-- fantasies. The original book was/is "Ahoy, Gum Drop!" which deals with Gum Drop Island. This is the home of Sir O. Yuri Wiseguy-eh who manages the only confectionary plantation in the world, and the only place on Earth where chocolate and candy is grown. It's up to him, and his oddball plantation helpers, to meet the demand of all of us insatiable connoisseurs of sweet delights.

Of course, though, something must happen to threaten his crops, and whatever shall we chocolate addicts do if there should be a chocolate famine?

After "Ahoy, Gum Drop!" I've written a sequel, "Ahoy, Out There!". This time, Yuri and the Mischaps gang go on a new adventure in another crazy, bizarre, ridiculous, and FUN tale.
How do you approach cover design?
I'm a professional cover designer, so I design my own covers.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
This is easy to answer. I tired of working so hard on my own marketing and promoting, yet the publisher took the bigger portion of my earnings? That made no sense. Love being indie.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Smashwords is excellent about putting my works out to the public and in so many outlets that I could never avail on my own.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Having a reader tell me that they LOVED my stories. :) I don't feel quite so crazy, then, for conjuring up all these imaginings. LOL
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
With my family and pets. Nothing like easing an overactive mind with spending peaceful moments with those you love.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Having a delicious cup of morning coffee!
Describe your desk
Cluttered. Dusty. With a noisy fan irritating me on the PC!
