Interview with Mnry Kou

Published 2016-10-15.
When did you first start writing?
The moment I picked up a writing utensil. Haven't stopped since and most likely never will (unless I kick the bucket that is).
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
I do, but never finished it because it is still in development.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Planning out a new scenario for my book or concepting character designs.
What is your writing process?
55% thinking. 35% writing. 5% headbanging. 5% ranting.
How do you approach cover design?
As long as my heart sings to the design I won't question it.
What's the story behind your latest book?
A promise I made to a friend who is here no longer.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
There as so many boundaries set by people born before us--rules and legacies we have to follow because someone who isn't here anyone said so. Indie is my way of spreading my wings and flying in my own direction.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I never really had a legit place to grow up because I moved around a lot so I see my unbringing as a blessing because I'm able to put myself in many shoes and write as if I were someone else entirely.
What do you read for pleasure?
I generally read Manga for pleasure because I enjoy pretty pictures and a good novel--two fancies in one go.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Expressing emotions--stress. When no one is around to lend an ear, writing gives me the opportunity to speak without needing any listeners.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Word of Mouth.
What do your fans mean to you?
They mean the world to me. Without support there can be no foundation and without a foundation there can be no world.
