Interview with Michelle Sasha Schmitz

What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Writing found me again. After years of trying to find my place in this topsy-turvy world, I found my way back to writing. It not only is a stress reliever for me, it also provides me an outlet for my thoughts, dreams, desires and hopes. It has become my way of releasing the fear and anxiety that we all experience. It's my form of yoga; my personal meditation.
What do your fans mean to you?
To have fans would be more than humbling. As this is my first endeavor in publishing, I hope to bring a piece of me to the world that feels familiar, relatable and inspiring. If I had any "fans", I'd want them to know how grateful I am that they have given me the opportunity to express myself in a positive way.
What are you working on next?
I hope to continue to write and hopefully create beautiful sounds to accompany my words. I also would love to delve into fiction writing, possible a novel loosely based off of my life experiences.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
My beautiful children, being alive and in the moment, and the idea that we only live once are truly the biggest motivational factors I have right now.

This collection of poems (mostly hip-hop influenced and some an homage to my Jamaican roots) is a thank you to the world of hip-hop. Profanity-free, this is a spiritual and uplifting expression that includes thoughts on the meaning of dreams, race, being a woman, and the experiences I've had along the way. Motivational and inspiring, it is call to return to the true origins of the hip-hop genre.
