Interview with Myrna Sokoloff

What is your writing process?
It's chaotic. I usually have the scene in my head and I furiously write it down.
How do you approach cover design?
I wanted to be dramatic and include elements of the story. In the case of Hand of Fatima it was soldiers, computer numbers and the gold 'Hand of Fatima; that is in the title. To Moslems,it is the name of Mohammed's daughter. To Christians it is called the 'Hand of Mary' and to Jews, it comes from the Hebrew word for five. It is the Hand of God and for all three faiths it is worn as a sign of protection.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Westport Connecticut and I always loved to write. I remember before I was ten I tried to adapt 'Little Women' as a play since I wanted to be an actress.
What's the story behind your latest book?
I was very distressed about the attack on Benghazi where four Americans lost their lives. There had been repeated calls to beef up security which were ignored. Then our own government lied about the reasons for the attack and blamed a video for the terrorist attack.

I wanted to show the affect of that type of political lie on the loved ones at home. I have worked in politics and government. I know there are wonderful people in both. But many people who are in it are only in it for their own power and do and say anything to retain that power.
I made up a story but the actions of the people are true to life.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I wanted control of what I write. Indie publishing is a gift to every writer who now doesn't have to wait for approval from a publisher- ok maybe on grammar!
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
I love creating characters and have the story come out the way I want it to. Also I get to discuss important issues from the perspective of how it affects real people.
What are you working on next?
I am writing a sequel to 'Hand of Fatima' since I put my characters and the country in danger I want them to handle it!
