Interview with Novella Walker

Published 2016-10-17.
When did you first start writing?
I started writing at a young age and always loved the writing assignments in school. I just could seem to put words together and they made sense. As a young adult, I knew that I wanted to be a writer, I felt that was my real calling in life and now I am doing it.
What's the story behind your latest book?
Well, I began to notice how technology was kind of a thing that wasn't going away any time soon. Not that I was against it, I actually enjoy technology and when I finally got a computer I completely lost my head and went full force with it. Then later it became a problem and I started noticing others when the smartphones came out and I felt that technology was kind of taking over people's lives. I know that it took over my life for a while and then this year I decided to write Technology Overload to help other people overcome their addictions to these modern devices and try to get their lives back. I hope that I can reach enough people and help them control their time spent online and on their smartphones.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
Before the Internet became a thing, I always want to be a published author but knew that going to traditional route would not be easy, especially if they didn't find your book salable enough. Many promising writers have gotten tossed in publishing houses slush pile never to be heard from again and dreams were crushed in those days. Now indie authors rule and there are many platforms they can use like Smashwords to publish their work and be in control of it. I liked the idea of self publishing and I was motivated to do it on my own and now I have and will continue to self publish because this is the direction that publishing is heading in for the future.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Smashwords is a God send. It has given me so much freedom and the ability to reach more readers than other places I have tried. This will help me in the long run to develop a readership that is all over the world.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
The greatest joy is the ability to put my thoughts in writing, my ideas my insights and this in turn could help someone else in their life as well It is my mission and joy to share what I know and have been through in the hopes of enhancing other people's lives and their journey through their existence here on Earth.
What do your fans mean to you?
My fans mean the world to me, it is like they are friends that I just haven't met yet. I would love to get to know each of my readers but I know that is not possible but I can show my appreciation to them through my work and continuing to provide quality content.
What are you working on next?
The next book I plan to write is going to be a self help/spiritual book of sorts. It deals with the human nature and how we see our world and interact in it and with others.
