Interview with Gaye Hemsley

What is your writing process?
When ideas come to mind i start writng. I don't have any set hour for writing.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
I clearly remember a little picture book called 'Cuthbert the Caterpillar' It was about the adventures of a little Caterpillar. It's real fired up my imagination as a young child.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Personally marketing.
Describe your desk
At bit of a mess at the moment. Housekeeping tomorrow.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in a New Zealand city which in the 40's was pretty lay back. I find I am now writing about how things were then. We used to go everywhere by tram. One of my stories is about a magical tram ride to Ireland.
When did you first start writing?
In primary school. I had a few poems and riddles published in the children's page of a weekly magazine.
What's the story behind your latest book?
It's a little picture book going though all the activities grand parents do. It's called 'All Nana's are different'
What motivated you to become an indie author?
Because I got tired of sending manuscripts of to publishers and waiting for an answer. So I started publishing my own stories.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Only just starting to use Smashwords.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Getting my stories on paper and bringing smiles to peoples faces.
