Interview with Nancy Turner

What do your fans mean to you?
Fans are the exclamation point to my years of interweaving one families' struggle with dysfunction onto the written page.
What are you working on next?
Book #2 research papers are rapidly rising in a huge box, as I prepare to outline the next book, One Mother of a Porn Star; Journey of Anguish.
Who are your favorite authors?
Ernest Hemingway, Dan Brown, Edgar Allen Poe, J.K. Rowling, Dr. Seuss, John Grisham, John Steinbeck, Charles Dickens, Herman Melville, Agatha Christie and Ayn Rand.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
My strong belief that God has spared my life so many times and that I have a purpose on this Earth that I am here to fulfill. In my heart, I believe I am to inspire others who are going through extreme heartache, family problems, depression, and abuse and to show them it is possible to initiate healing through serious counseling, setting healthy boundaries and using "Tough Love" in dealing with overwhelming people and situations. Or, as I like to call it, "The WHY of Life."
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I indulge in research of many kinds and various subjects that reach out and touch my heart. Also, I study people a lot and enjoy taking photos. I mostly photograph unusual events, people, pets, and extraordinary scenery that God created.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I scroll through book covers/titles until a subject catches my eye.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Oh yes. I was in the sixth grade. My teacher gave us a homework project to write an essay on a historic event that we felt strongly about. I chose the "Battle of the Alamo." That night, I opened our front door, placed a small desk and chair in front of the door and stared up at a gorgeous full moon. In no time, I had written six pages. When I turned them in the next day. My teacher loved it, and I received an A+.
What is your writing process?
My writing process is pen and paper. Then, I type my notes into my computer and proofread it repeatedly until I am satisfied with the result. Many times, I think I did my best, only to receive a dream that speaks to me about a better way to bring a scene to life in a more meaningful way.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
Because I was in church at least three times a week as a young child, the very first story I remember that I read was the Bible story about the birth of the Baby Jesus.
How do you approach cover design?
Again, I research for days on the internet for the very best cover design artist that seems to express what I envision as the type of art I would like on my cover.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
#1 "The Bible" because I was raised in a strong Christian family and I believe God loves me and others, too.
#2 "The Sleeping Prophet" by Jess Stern. It is the story of Edgar Cayce. I have read many stories about Edgar Cayce and believe that he received a Gift from God and used it to help heal and comfort thousands of people.
#3 "Killing Lincoln" by Bill O'Reilly. I have always been fascinated by American History and Abraham Lincoln dealt with an important time in history -- freeing the slaves and the Civil War.
#4 "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" by Tennessee Williams. Every word in the play and later the movie captivated my spirit. I felt as if I was in the story as it happened. It is one of my favorite movies of all time and also Tennessee Williams' favorite work.
#5 "Killing Kennedy" by Bill O'Reilly. The assassination of President John F. Kennedy impacted me and almost every American the day of his tragic assassination. I read Bill's book with great interest. While our opinions of some of the events may differ, due to my deep research during the days, weeks and months following the assassination, we both share a strong interest in the unthinkable event that changed American History forever.
