Interview with Nathan T. Scott

When did you first start writing?
I have wanted to create a universe of my own for a long time. I always imagined it would be a game. I never thought that writing would be the medium for that dream, until one day I decided that I would write a book. I started writing and just kept going.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
I would say that the greatest joy would be discovering what will happen to the characters next.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
When I am not playing hide and seek with my sons or watching a tv show or movie with my wife, I enjoy playing video games and Dungeons and Dragons, working on and racing my mustang, and playing disc golf.
Who are your favorite authors?
In no particular order: R. A. Salvatore, Ed Greenwood, J. R. R. Tolkien, Trudi Canavan, Terry Brooks, Terry Goodkind, Terry Pratchett.
What are your favorite books, and why?
The Dark Elf Trilogy because Salvatore's knack for combat is very inspiring and the way he brings the characters to life. The Black Magician Trilogy because Canavan's concept for how magic is stored inside people inspired how magic works in my book.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Besides Smashwords, I use Google Play Books.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
Whatever my current phone is, which at this time is a Pixel.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
The first story I remember reading was in second grade. I actually had the entire story memorized, but I could not tell you today what the story title was or what it was about, just that I had it memorized. The first story that I read that made me want to write was, The Dark Elf Trilogy, by R. A. Salvatore.
How do you approach cover design?
I spent a lot of time googling book covers and decided that I liked simple book covers the best. Although, I am not opposed to busy ones.
What are you working on next?
Part two of Xander's Essence.
Published 2017-12-03.
