Interview with Nicholas J Hill, Jr

What is your e-reading device of choice?
I prefer to read onn my Mac.
What do you read for pleasure?
Over the last ten or so years I have read more than 400 books on health and wellness. I am intrigued by the fact that 97 % of babies are born perfectly healthy. Then, as we go through life, we develop aches and pains along with degenerative diseases like diabetes and arthritis. Changes in our health and wellbeing are not due to bad luck and, in most cases, heredity is not at play. These changes represent the consequences of our food and lifestyle choices over time. Think of the health equivalent "by now and pay later." We develop problems by default because we don't know any better.
I read science-based books that describe our maladies and teach us what we can do to become healthier.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
As I grew up in Pennsylvania my favorite question then and now is "why?" Everything happens for a reason. So what happened and why did ti happen? If a happening affected me, why did it happen and what might I have done about it? There is a relevant Pennsylvania Dutch (Deutsch) expression, "We get too soon old and too late smart."
I enjoy finding answers to "why."
When did you first start writing?
In my early teens the first paper I wrote was entitled, "Man, Know Thyself."
What's the story behind your latest book?
By the time I hit middle age I had overcome arthritis in both knees and hips, pre-diabetes and had had cancer three times. Now, as a senior senior, I am in great health because I asked "why" and figured out what to do about any health problem. I never had surgery, or medications, or chemo.
Actually, I did have surgery more than twenty years ago to reconstruct my shattered left knee after colliding with a deer while riding my Harley.
I am one of the healthiest seniors.
