Interview with Amy Dollimore

Published 2014-03-29.
What is your favourite book, and why?
Acheron is definitely my favourite. I love it because Acheron himself is such an inspirational character. Not only does he overcome extreme circumstances to eventually become a stronger person, he allows himself to finally feel again. I believe behind the story line itself are amazing metaphors, this story will enlighten you in many ways while also keeping you glued to every word.
What do you read for pleasure?
Anything and everything that catches my attention. I'll read fantasy, adventure, crime, true crime, biographies, just anything that happens to peak my interest at the time.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I prefer real books to an e-reader, though on my phone there is a google play books thing,
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up everywhere and nowhere. I moved around a lot from place to place while growing up. I believe this positively influenced my writing as it made me adaptable to change, which is why my genres of choice are so diverse.
When did you first start writing?
I first started writing in grade school, probably around third grade. I really got into writing in my eleventh grade Writers Craft class. There was where i realized i wanted to make writing a career or at least an extreme side hobby.
What's the story behind your latest book?
It's complicated. I don't like to give away too many details, but it is very complex.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Being able to bring a situation to life through my words.
What do your fans mean to you?
Everything. As a writer, you're not just writing for yourself, but also for them. They fall in love with your characters, cry if/when they die. Realistically, they have gone on the adventures with your characters, become their friends, family.
What are you working on next?
The story of one of my side characters from my main novel.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Listening to music, being around my friends and family, brainstorming with friends about which routes to take in my stories.
What is your writing process?
It's all over the place really. Usually, i decide on an event i want to happen, and i then focus on the details needed to get them there.
