Interview with River Ferren

How do you approach cover design?
It's a tricky thing-cover design. You need to catch the readers attention, but not over whelm them. The golden rule to reading is not to judge a book by it's cover, but inside we all know we don't want to read that book with the poor title or bland cover. But over whelming the reader with to much might make them read your book for the wrong reasons and that can lead to bad news for your career, certainly so if it's picked up by the wrong people.
When did you first start writing?
I started writing in third grade. My teacher would fuss at the clutter of silly Warrior cats fan fiction that was stuffed inside of my poor small desk. Serious writing began in 8th grade, when I began to allow the public to read my writing.
Describe your desk
My desk is completely cluttered and unorganized. Like me.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in a small town called Bluewell, and while it didn't really inspire me to write it was the best place to grow up.
What's the story behind your latest book?
Disney. Disney inspires a lot of my stories. Disney, school, and shower thoughts.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
... I'm kind of broke so I said to heck with it!
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Not yet--But I'm sure in time it will!
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Making and creating the world inside my head, bringing MY reality to the world and painting it like my empty canvas.
What do your fans mean to you?
Everything. :) On Wattpad it would fill me with joy to hear all the nice comments people would write on my stories, even if it was only fan fiction. You guys mean the world and I wouldn't continue if it wasn't for you.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
My five favorite books.... 1. Captain Underpants. It's childish yes, but it's what got me s interested in reading. 2. I would say it would be The Seven Towers. 3. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. I think everyone can place at least one HP book in their top five. 4. Percy Jackson and the Olympians-I'm just going to jumble all ten books here cause goodness that was the best year I ever spent reading a series. 5. Warriors: The Last Hope.
What are you working on next?
A book, my first real non-fan fiction book and I'm super excited. :)
