Interview with Andrey Yagin

Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
I remember my first book that I read when I was 6 or 7. It was called "Petrified Wolves". I was so impressed with that book that I fell in love with reading.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
My favorite books in English are As Sure as the Dawn by Francine Fivers, Left Behind by Tim LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins, Exodus by Leon Uris, The Nazarene by Sholem Asch, and Dark Horse by Ralph Reed
What do you read for pleasure?
I enjoy reading fiction or political novels, especially when books are "built" on true events, I also like historical books.
Describe your desk
My PC, camera, several books that I read, notebooks for making notes, Bibles in several languages that I read, lists of things to do.
What's the story behind your latest book?
My book was based on real events that took place in the former Soviet Union and around the world. Being a pastor, I described the life of a pastor in an ex-Soviet city with his victories and challenges. The frame of the book is a detective story involving Christians, Muslims, terrorists, and just average city dwellers.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
It is the end result. My readers enjoy my writing and it adds a new value to their life.
Who are your favorite authors?
Frank Peretti, Francine Rivers, Leon Uris, Sholem Asch, Josephus Flavius, John Grisham, and others.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
I am new to the e-book market, so I am still learning.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Through my friends, Internet ads, references.
When did you first start writing?
I started writing short stories when I was a university student (1988-1993). However, my first serious book was written in 2007.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
I like your motto - your book. your way. You allow authors to remain authentic and provide an easy and convenient channel to publish books.
What are you working on next?
I have several books in my mind and have been writing another book about Pastor Alexey Zimin. Hope to finish it soon.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I read, spend time with my family, especially with my wife, fellowship with my friends, travel.
What is your writing process?
First of all, I get the idea of the book, then I make a "skeleton" of the book and start putting "meat" on the "bones". I read through my story many times and tie the events together, add new stuff or make changes. Then I let my close friends read my writings to hear their unbiased opinions. Then I read through my book once again and, I guess, end the work there.
