Interview with P Manning

Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
That is a very good question. I grew up in Louisiana. I had six sisters and we were very close, both in age and in friendship. We did not have a lot of money though our parents worked very hard. We did not have a lot of toys but that did not stop us from having the best times of our lives through creativity and sometimes, stupid pranks. The magical quality of our childhood inspired me as an adult. One day I was telling a friend about my childhood and she said, "You should write a book." So I took the magical feeling that has been with me throughout my life and came up with the "Culpepper clan book." The creative juices has been flowing ever since and I hope they always will.
When did you first start writing?
Oh my gosh, I first started writing when I was around twelve-years-old. It was a song. I loved the Jackson Five so much that I wrote a song that sounded too much like one of their songs. The words were mine but not the melody. Anyway, when I was in grade school, I loved to read, write, spell...anything to do with words.
However I did write songs in my later years and I realized I was telling a love story with my songs, however, the child in me wanted to tell bigger and more exciting stories. So I stopped writing songs and began my career writing children's books; the child in me won the day. As she always should.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
Well, I decided that I believe in my book, "The Culpepper Clan and the Un-Sacred Rhealm." I believe in it 100%. I felt that I did not need large publishing companies telling me that my book deserves or does not deserve to be published.
I know, with all that I am, that my book deserves to be in the hands of a child who loves adventure, fantasy, and childhood magic. I have a lot to do to make sure that happens.

But I know it will happen!
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
I am just now getting involved with Smashwords. I can tell you this: Smashwords has contributed a lot to my sense of moving ahead and getting my book out there. By providing this wonderful platform for me, as a writer, Smashwords contributes to my sense of freedom and independence. For that I am truly grateful.

Hopefully, there will be other successes later on.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Absolutely. I have a lot of passions; writing songs, singing, providing care for the elderly and other things, but nothing settles within my spirit and fires me up like writing about the Culpepper clan.
I am so grateful for that.
What are you working on next?
Right now I am working on the second Culpepper book. It involves, of course, many of the same characters but also new ones.

Stay tuned!
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Many things. Getting ready to go to work, drinking a cup of coffee, taking actions to further my writing career and so much else. Wow, that is a good question.
What is your writing process?
I don't have a process. My life is so busy with work, family, and other activities, that I write in any spare time that I have, usually in the evening.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
I remember reading fairy tales as a child and they have all had a fantastical impact on me, in that I love sort of remove myself from
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I spend my time working, visiting with friends and family, and just simply relaxing!
