Interview with Ann Parker Burgess

How do you approach cover design?
I try to look for a cover that reflects the characters or themes of my books. I want to attract my resders without using images that are distracting or take away from the heart of what they will be reading. I don't like the typical romance covers. I find they usually have little to do with the actual story inside.
What do you read for pleasure?
I like to read many genres. To pick favorites is kind of hard to do. I suppose for now my favorites are books by Rachel Wollaston. She is a fantasy writer. I am currently reading Feathered and have read two other books written by her; Kingdom and Seeing Blue. Another author I like is Amy Marie. I just finished reading Reminiscence. I am looking forward to reading the sequel Quintessence.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
What ever I have close by. I use my phone, my kindle, my computer and my tablet.
Describe your desk
My kitchen table, a tray or my lap.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Southern States of America. I suppose this has some influence. My love to read and love of history have probably influenced more.
When did you first start writing?
When I was around the age of eleven. I used to write little stories and pass them around to my friends in school.
What's the story behind your latest book?
A few years back I stayed in a bed and breakfast. There was painting hanging on the wall above the stairway. It was copy of art deco by a French artist. It was of a woman wearing a green dress. She wore a matching hat over her blonde curls and held a pair matching glove in her hand. I was taken by her and of course the house in which I was staying. The story came to me and I began to write a romance with a little history of the woman in green. I titled it Remember When It Rained.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I wanted my work to be read. I wanted my work to be published.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
I am just starting out with Smashwords and haven't published anything yet. Time will tell. Get back with me on this question.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Seeing my characters come to life and sharing them with my readers.
What are you working on next?
I hope to publish my vampire series and a romance series about a cowboy and woman from Holly Springs Mississippi.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Life and love
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Reading, taking care of my husband and grandson or playing games on my phone. Yes, I am addicted to Fishdom.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I belong to many writing groups and have made several friends through them. I like to read their work. I also have books recommended to me by friends and family.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes, but I'm telling what it was. It was silly.
