Interview with Paul Shore

What's the story behind your latest book?
The year I spent living and working in a small town in the South of France was so quirky and so impactful on me that I decide to write a humorous memoir about it.

Having smoke repeatedly blown in my face didn't deter this foreigner from breaking into French culture. I hope the story entertains and inspires, as I tell the tale of how I gained acceptance inside a famous charming village in Provence.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I had always wanted to write and I am quite technically savvy, so after meeting with a publishing world advisor, I decided that I had the experience required to self-publish successfully. Today's online tools and services, like Smashwords, make becoming a successful indie author much more possible than it was only a few years ago.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
I am new to Smashwords, though I believe it will enable me to efficiently distribute and market my ebook on a number of platforms.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Having readers contact me to share that they have been entertained or inspired by my writing. Many report that my writing rekindles some of their own fond travel memories for them --- this touches me deeply and inspires me to continue writing.
What do your fans mean to you?
Everything! Without their positive feedback, I likely wouldn't continue to write!
What are you working on next?
I am writing snippets about quirky travel experiences and trying to decide if they will form the basis for a novel or another travel memoir.
Who are your favorite authors?
Bill Bryson, Terry Fallis, Peter Mayle
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Spending time being creative, spending time with my young family, and spending time being active in the mountains and by the ocean.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Being active in the mountains or on the ocean with my family. Managing our vacation rental property The Shores at Lund... www.shoresatlund.com. And doing part-time technology management consulting.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Typically through recommendations from friends.
What is your writing process?
Write many snippets and then start to stitch them together like a undefined puzzle to see what image emerges.
How do you approach cover design?
I hire a professional, provide my creative input, and then get out of the way ;)
Describe your desk
Very neat and organized, and with many photos of family, friends, and scenery all around.
