Interview with Paula Fisher

Published 2014-01-31.
When did you first start writing?
I've been interested in writing stories and poems since childhood. I remember reading William Wordsworth's, 'I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud' and being inspired by it, thinking to myself that Wordsworth must really love daffodils to be able to write about them so beautifully. Back then of course, I didn't know the poem was inspired by his sister, Dorothy's journal entry.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
I enjoy the challenge of writing in iambic rhythms and get a great deal of satisfaction from being able to express myself in this way
What are you working on next?
At the moment I'm working on a sonnet about something that is very dear to my heart - my music and my band.
Who are your favorite authors?
As a young child I always loved the works of Edward Lear and Robert Louis Stevenson. As a teenager I began to appreciate the likes of William Wordsworth and of course my hero, William Shakespeare.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Looking after my family and playing my music. I love doing both.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Sadly, no. I do however remember writing plays with my brother, aunt and cousin. They were lots of fun to write and act out.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
When I was young, I can remember reading a Rupert Bear annual over and over again. It was written in rhyming couplets and I thought it was amazingly clever that someone could tell a story in that way.
What do you read for pleasure?
If I'm being honest, I have to say 'Crime Fiction'.
Describe your desk
Small and full of notebooks and pens
