Interview with People Like Us Publishing

When did you first start writing?
Personally I started writing since Middle School. As a Company about 1 year.
What's the story behind your latest book?
Our latest book we wrote called Owed Two X's was a starter to see if we could gain submissions. What better way than to ask people about their love life. This anthology was created to let people express how they felt about their ex relationships through the art of poetry. Some are sad, others comical, and one I believe even has a reference to How I Met Your Mother.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I believe peoples words have a lot of power and peoples stories could have a major impact on someones lives. I started this company in order to help people express their feelings on topics that people tend to ignore or put in shame because their different. I also created this company to motivate those who never get a chance to be published because the big leagues think they don't have potential. Everyone's stories are unique and we want to help share them with the world.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
We just started so as of now it hasn't. But giving us this free outlet to be able to publish our books and share them will be a big help personally and financially.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
The adventure, the creativity, the freedom
What do your fans mean to you?
As a writer and hopefully soon to be publisher our fans are everything.
What are you working on next?
Our next publication is called "This is Who We Are." "This is Who We Are" is an LGBTQ+ anthology filled with peoples coming out experiences. Our mission is to help those still struggling with acceptance and assure them that they are not alone. As well as open the eyes to those who don't understand what we have to go through to come out and accept ourselves. Submissions are currently being submitted to
Who are your favorite authors?
I am more of a young adult series reader. I love books on the suprnatural, magic, or mythology sense. Lemony Snicket, Darren Shan, Rick Riordan, David Patterson and of course JK Rowling to name a few.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Thinking about getting People Like Us Publishing off the ground and getting submissions for This is Who We Are.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Hanging out with friends, sleeping, or working.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I am old fashion and personally like to hold a physical book, but since i am going to be publishing in e-book form i will begin to read more e-books.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
The first Poem I ever wrote was called Pebble and it was in elementary school. The first book I ever attempted to write was going to be a crossover between Chucky and Slappy from Goosebumps. I never actually finished it and i don't plan on it.
How do you approach cover design?
Normally I think about what the book is about and try to come up with an idea that reveals something about the book but not everything. Or if i am preoccupied I give a basic idea to a friend and they help me come up with the cover design.
