What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
My clients and readers. I love helping people have healthier relationship with themselves and others. As The Relationship Help Doctor, As the Relationship Help Doctor, I provide urgent, ongoing and intensive care for couples. I help couples restore and rebuild their bond. When their relationship needs intensive care or immediate first aid, I work with them to alleviate their acute or chronic pain and heal their relationships. Being able to do that gets me going each morning! Ready to see clients, blog or write new articles, too.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Seeing clients, talking with my amazing husband who stimulates my thinking endlessly, playing with my dog, reading, going to movies, talking with friends.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I usually do a search for a topic that interests me. Then, I look for the most highly qualified person who has written on it.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
I write non-fiction, so I do not.
What is your writing process?
I get up early, put my fanny on the fabric and write!
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
My godmother always read and recited A.A. Milne to me, so Winnie the Pooh was big. Opening the door to books to me was the greatest impact it made.
How do you approach cover design?
I find an image that really fits the bill and then I work with my designer to make it happen.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
Too many to have favorites!! :D
What do you read for pleasure?
I enjoy reading all the books I choose. That makes answering the "for pleasure" part impossible.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
Kindle Fire
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Smashwords, Amazon, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and my newsletter.
Describe your desk
I have three. The one in my office goes from piles to files in slow order. The other two just hold laptops and what I'm working on at the moment.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up on Vancouver Island in Canada. Geography didn't affect my writing, but it did affect my perception of myself as a writer. Living in the United States, and particularly in San Diego, CA, has made everything more open, possible, and easy. All good.
When did you first start writing?
I wrote my first book in 1989.
What's the story behind your latest book?
KAIZEN FOR COUPLES: Smart Steps to Save, Sustain and Strengthen Your Relationship is the result of working with couples for more than thirty years. Clients kept asking for the insights, strategies and understanding that I shared with them in session in book form. So, I delivered! lol
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I believed I had something to say that would help folks cope with relationships with themselves and others.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
It has made it very easy to reach people, and to give them a foolproof way of delivering their books immediately. I count on it and am grateful for it.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Putting ideas and insights together to make them valuable to my readers. Love playing with ideas and putting them into language people can truly grasp easily.
What do your fans mean to you?
Who doesn't love fans!!!
What are you working on next?
Another book to help folks understand that what other people choose to do is not about them.
