Interview with Drew Bankston

How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Smashwords has really caused me to focus on how my interior is presented to readers. In addition, they have expanded distribution of my work and has allowed a wider number of people to preview and purchase my works!
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
The greatest joy of writing for me is to get to meet each new character. They become my friends and get into situations that I wish I would have the nerve to encounter. Each time I write a book, it's as if I'm reading it for the first time.
What do your fans mean to you?
Fans are the greatest! They are the driving force behind the sales and popularity of each book I write. Without them, my books would sit on the living-room floor and gather dust. I am so grateful to each and every fan that loves what I love to do!
What are you working on next?
I am definitely working on a few projects next, but I can tell you what at this point. I have to wait until the cover is done for each book before I can reveal the title or the nature of the story.
Who are your favorite authors?
I love the old school authors. Ray Bradbury, Issac Asimov and the like.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
The day itself inspires me to get up and moving. I know that each day is going to move me forward towards my life goals and I look forward to each day with excitement and zeal!
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
When I'm not writing I'm filming and editing for my video company, Star Painter Productions. It's a very full and busy life!
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Constantly scanning the various selling partners on the internet and listening to what is trending.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
The first story I ever wrote was in first grade, and I actually set it up for my first grade class as an audio play. It was a hoot and had dragons, heroes and villains!
What is your writing process?
I get an idea and flesh it out in my head. Then, in my writing process, I let the characters take over and lead me where they will. I'm often amazed at where they take me!
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
I don't remember the first story I ever read, but I remember reading stories when I was younger and finding that I loved science fiction and fantasy. I believe that this is where my writing hunger came from.
How do you approach cover design?
I explain the concept and main plot points of the story to my graphic designer and let her loose. She does an amazing job and always fills the vision that I had in my mind.
