Interview with Peter Morgan

Published 2016-10-26.
When did you first start writing?
I can remember writing my first story around the age of six. My school teacher was reading to the class and in my mind I wanted the story to go another way, so when I arrived home that afternoon I wrote my own version.
Who are your favorite authors?
I grew up reading R.L Stine's Fear Street and Goosebumps series and then moved onto Stephen King and Dean R Koontz.
Describe your desk
My desk would be best described as organized chaos. It looks a mess but I know where everything is that I need.
What's the story behind your latest book?
Welcome to Black Mountain has many creepy and horrible creatures that roam the island but my latest book taps into a much darker and sinister character. He makes me nervous but at the same time I'm enjoying the havoc he is bringing to the island.
What is your writing process?
I tend to write on paper first and then cross it over to my PC after many edits. A lot of my work is inspired by my own nightmares, I keep a dream journal next to my bed and find this really helps me when writing about Welcome to Black Mountain. Sometimes I have the entire story mapped out in my mind and other times I have no idea where it is going, but I find the characters always steer me in the right direction.
What are you working on next?
Welcome to Black Mountain is my upcoming supernatural horror series. Besides the short ghost stories known as Island Lore there is an actual website featuring a graphic novel which is the main story of Welcome to Black Mountain. The Island Lore has many hidden clues that link to the main story. Welcome to Black Mountain will be out soon, so please go on my main page and sign up. Its free.
How do you approach cover design?
I am truly blessed by having an illustrator/cover designer who knows exactly what I want. We are on the same wave length, its as if he somehow climbs into my mind to see exactly what I want and then executes it perfectly. His name is Mike Stuart.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Smashwords has put me out on so many different platforms with the Premium Catalogue system, I am so grateful as I have been contacted by a few indie horror bloggers, a radio station or two and even an indie horror producer/director asking me if I would be interested in doing a script for some of my work. A lot of people that have seen my tweets as well have signed up now to Smashwords as they are impressed with how far your work can be spread.
