I started writing at age 12 and it was a poem called Poetry. Go figure!
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Los Angeles. I knew then I wanted to conquer the city. I'd look out at night and see all the lights. I would wonder when it would be my time to rule the land. I lived in what most could dub as an "urban community", which tends to be synonymous with middle classed Blacks. Still, where I experienced my upbringing has little to do with my writing. The authors, however, that have influenced me are Eric Jerome Dickey, Toni Morrison, Maya Angelou, J.K. Rowling, John Grisham and Robert K. Tanenbaum.
What do you read for pleasure?
For pleasure I enjoy listening to music and karaoke. I like to watch movies, binge watch my favorite TV series and dabble in photo editing. Ultimately, though, my favorite thing to do is create.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
If I had to choose an e-reading device, it'd be a tablet. Kindle's are great because the glare from the screen is non-existent, however, it feel weird under my fingers. I prefer real books. There's nothing like the feel of coarse parchment between your fingers as you turn the page of your favorite book.
Describe your desk
My desk is pretty minimal and is the most organized area in my domain. That's saying quite a bit since "artsy" really means "organized chaos" in my world. There's a lamp on the left of the desk and there is a framed positive affirmation sitting elegantly to the right. In the middle are my administrative tools (pens, marker, stapler, etc.) and in my one drawer is...well, if I told you what was in there, I'd have to kill you.
