What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Blog tours, Facebook, and Twitter have been very effective. I also think that setting up a Goodreads giveaway is effective.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in an rural town of Fayetteville, Tennessee. This influences my writing because they are my support and they encourage me in every decision I make.
When did you first start writing?
I first started writing when I was twelve. I wrote it first in my notebook. Afterwards, I typed it.
What's the story behind your latest book?
I wrote this story when I was twelve in my notebook. It was originally a few pages. But when I typed it at thirteen, I loved the characters so much that I wanted to explore them further. I wrote a story based off of their adventures.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
My writing teacher encouraged me to publish it. He really liked it. My parents also encouraged me. If it wasn't for their encouragement, I would not have published my story.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
It has helped me distribute my book to other retailers.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
It is an escape. Because of the bleak world were are living everyday, where many tragedies have become headlines in the world. I like to write and focus on the positive.
What do your fans mean to you?
My fans mean the world to me. They are the reason why I write.
What are you working on next?
I am working on a historical mystery set in post WWI in San Francisco.
Who are your favorite authors?
My favorite authors are Juliet Marillier, Gail Carson Levine, Melanie Dickerson, and Shannon Hale for writers of fairytale retellings. I also love historical fiction writers Michelle Moran, C.W. Gortner, and Phillippa Gregory.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Doing what I love inspires me to get out of bed each day.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I spend my time reading, blogging, working, and school. It is hard to juggle school and working during my writing time. However, I try my best to find the time to write, especially at night.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I mostly discover them through amazon. I have a kindle, and I'm always looking to expand my bookshelf.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
The first story that I have ever written is this book, Clovers and Fire.
What is your writing process?
I write the original draft first, then I rewrite it. Then I edit it to make necessary changes. I keep editing it until I am satisfied.
How do you approach cover design?
My grandmother is a successful artist. I've always loved her artwork. My dream one day is to have my portrait made by her. Because she is an amazing artist, I wanted her to design my book cover.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
My five favorite books are Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine, Beauty by Robin McKinley, Goose Girl by Shannon Hale, Daughters of the Forest by Juliet Marillier, and The Swan Maiden by Jules Watson. These books are my favorite because they take classic fairytales and ancient myths and have their unique retelling of the stories.
What do you read for pleasure?
I like to read fairy tale retellings, historical fiction, fantasy, and mysteries.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
My favorite e-reading device is my kindle.
