Interview with Quil McKay

When did you first start writing?
When I was 7.
What's the story behind your latest book?
I had never written a single romance scene, it was like a dark cloud hanging over my head. I just dove in and went for it.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
They haven't so far, but I've only been on here for about 20 minutes, so I don't think they've had a chance yet.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Building a new world the way I want it.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I've been told that m/m is rather unpublishable.
What do your fans mean to you?
If I had any fans (insert bitter laughter here) they would mean the world to me.
What are you working on next?
Finishing at least 1 of the 12 stories I'm currently in the middle of. Sigh...I suffer from writer's ADD (it's a real thing...I swear).
Who are your favorite authors?
Stephanie Meyer - haha! (Totally kidding)
Jules Verne - it takes balls to get your character in a jam then just have them randomly go unconscious so you don't have to work out the problem.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
My alarm clock.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Hummmmmmm, I don't understand the question...
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
The most recent one had a single chapter published on BooksieSilk, I liked it so much I bought it off Amazon so I could read the whole thing.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes, I still have the notebook I wrote it in (it was shockingly terrible, even for a 7 year old).
What is your writing process?
I don't have one, which is probably why I haven't been very successful at this (& I'm unpublishable - don't forget that).
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
No I don't so I'm guessing it had no impact at all.
How do you approach cover design?
Hammer on my graphic designer sister until she creates me something.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
5 is too many, just listing 1.
Any of the Sherlock Holmes stories.
I've always loved mysteries and have never been able to write them.
What do you read for pleasure?
Almost anything.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
Something with a full charge.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
None so far, that's why I'm here.
Describe your desk
When you say 'desk' - what exactly are you referring to?
I tend to sit on my bed with my laptop.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I refuse to grow up so I don't think my writing has been influenced one bit.
Write your own question here!
Why am I having to ask questions? I thought you were interviewing me, I wasn't prepared for this.
Write your own question here!
Oh dear god, is this a joke?
Write your own question here!
Sooooooooo, I've had fun asking questions but I'm finished now.
