Interview with Raymond Scudder
Published 2015-07-23.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
It wasn't a story but rather an essay I wrote in high school. I remember it very well because there was a national essay contest and my essay “Why I Want to Go to College” won first place. That got me a $5000 scholarship, free trip to New York City & Washington D.C. and my essay was printed in the U.S. Congressional Record.
How many books have you written?
So far, I’ve only written two. My first book “How to Improve Your Life” was meant, not to entertain readers, but to help them. I learned at an early age that the best way to get the things you want in life is to always keep focused on what you want. This book provides a process for doing that. My second book “No Limit Texas Hold’em – 50 Winning Tips was more of a fun ebook. I’m an avid poker player and this book provides the tips that have helped me the most. As you might surmise, I enjoy writing about things that can help others improve.
Any plans for another book?
It may be a blog or it may be a book. I’m not sure yet. I have an idea about how we as a society could go about eliminating discrimination and maybe even how we could significantly reduce the killings of our fellow human beings. At this point, I’m at the concept and not the writing stage.
What have you learned about publishing and self-publishing?
Getting something published is near impossible unless you are very well known. Self-publishing is fairly easy to do but does cost you a little money. The really difficult part is how to get your book in front of the people who might be interested in buying it. Smashwords does a good job of providing marketing tips.
