Interview with Brian Pewor

Published 2014-03-13.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
when I'm not writing I spend some of my time volunteering at a friends of mines non profit organization, helping ex convicts find employment. But I majority spend a lot of time, finding inspiration, and writing down ideas for new characters and works I have plan for creating. Now that this novel is complete I am currently writing the follow up to this story
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I usually would find something on smashwords.com or amazon etc. mainly the common eBook distributors
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
I actually do not.
What is your writing process?
wow! my writing process is very eclectic. for the main part when I have a character stuck in my head, I think I transform myself into the character giving it life and develops a personality for it, then depending on the timeline or situation I write as the character. but i try never to force it's personality so if I have to step back from my pages I do giving the character time to process its situation then react as if. But then there is times when the words just fly out of me and i lock myself in the room and I'm writing for hours straight.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
I don't remember the very first book, but I remember reading Malcolm X's life story and thought WOW, how amazing he was and how he made so many transitions as a human in his life time and I was inspired to know that a person can change no matter what cards life dealt them, and also inspire his fellow man for the greater good as all. Now many people might look at X as a separatist but in his final times of life he was not and he understood that all races can live as one under one flag and that was the most important and message that really stood out to me during that time I was around 16 when I read his book
How do you approach cover design?
Well in this specific Cover design for ( The Sun Of Silk) I wanted the image to be personal. a direct image that reflects the characters intensity. now as for the book I am currently working on I have already developed a different approach and although i am basing Book around another character I will be a little bit more abstract with the art but not deriving away from the story
What do you read for pleasure?
In all honesty I read a lot of bio books, I am always fascinated with other people stories of their lives and the great things they managed to accomplish. I love history. but as far as novels go I don't read any.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
well I do like the I pads and kindles
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
as of now, social media and word of mouth. the one thing about a good product ,is that if it is good it will always sell it's sell. and people like to share a good thing so twitter is really being helpful in this project
Describe your desk
messy
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I actually grew up in the Bronx, New York. and growing up there is the reason I write. I grew up in the 80's and as a kid I saw a lot of the things I write about. The drugs and crime, yet families looking out for each other helping each other. The Bronx holds a very special place in my heart and one day I plan of doing something real special for the kids growing up there now and I hope I can be of inspiration to them as The BRONX has been for me.( B.X BABY!! BOOGIE DOWN BRONX REPRESENTING! 183 PARK AVE.) LOL LOL
When did you first start writing?
I started writing at a very young age I know at lease 2 grade I started writing poems to girls I liked, then being a music lover I began writing songs, mainly reggae songs. I love reggae music
What's the story behind your latest book?
well the story behind my latest book is like I said before, growing up in The Bronx, I witnesses a lot of the things I write about but I would always picture a better way to live so I just imagined a person working on changing his situation by what ever means and cards he was dealt in life
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I think it was only natural for me to take this direction. I played around with writing scripts before and I will always come up with movie ideas, and characters I thought people would like to learn about to this novel the first of a series came very natural. it is like they say as long as you love what you do it will never become work and that what writing is for me I love to write. sometimes, most times i have to force myself to take a break i would be up till 4-5 in the morning get up at 8 and be right back at it again typing away on my laptop
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
smash words is everything to me to be honest. my heart is one that commits to loyalty and the support smash words has given me in this project is one that many people who don't know about could only dream about but It is not just for me but everyone here at smash words and it makes you feel like you belong to a strong family of support and for a indie writer it is a great feeling to not feel alone in your dream. so, BIG,BIG UP'S TO SMASH WORDS.COM
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
When some one tell you they loved your story. or ask you what happens to a specific character, it is the greatest feeling in the world to see some one else enjoying your vision.
What do your fans mean to you?
OMG. I don't even consider anyone that reads my books and supports me a fan i swear its like family and i just feel so much love for them for inviting me into there world. they mean everything to me
What are you working on next?
I am working on the follow up to ( The Son of Silk) but I can't revel the tittle now because I want all the fans of ( SOS ) TO BE SURPRISE. but i am very excited about the next book also
