Interview with R.J. Seeley

Who are your favorite authors?
My favourite authors are; Brent Hartinger, Robin Reardon, TJ Klune, Jo Banks, David Levithain.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
My five most favourite books are Geography Club by Brent Hartinger, because this was one of the first LGBT book I ever read and it really inspired me. Boy Meets Boy by David Levithain because it's such a sweet and innocent story. Educating Simon by Robin Reardon, because I couldn't put the book down and just could not stop reading it. Candyfloss by Jacqueline Wilson as it was such a interesting story and relatable, especially when I was younger and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban because of the Marauders!
What is your e-reading device of choice?
Well I have a kindle (one of the older ones,) but I prefer reading on the Kindle App on my iPad.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Liverpool and it completely influences my writing, the majority of my characters are scousers and there is a lot of Liverpool references and slang in my books.
When did you first start writing?
I first started writing when I was 14, one day I just picked up an A4 pad and wrote a story, delivering it to my English teacher when it was almost done. I only really began writing novels for publishing when I was 15, although they didn't get published until I was 17 (3 years ago!)
What are you working on next?
Next, I'm working on the end of the series of Gay Brigade!
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Well surrounded by children, training to be a Teaching Assistant, every other minute of the day is writing!
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Depends, sometimes through groups on Facebook, most of the time by just scrolling through the kindle library!
How do you approach cover design?
Cover design is interesting, my first thought is, person or object? Then I go from there, I think of colours, I think of fonts, I try to see what works it has to connect to something in the story, it has to be visually appetising.
What do your fans mean to you?
My fans mean the world, I don't write for them at all but when I find out someone likes things it makes my day and I have to thank that person!
