Interview with RL Stoll

What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Teaching and inspiring others through stories.
What are you working on next?
Publishing Book II- Keep Safe & writing Book III- Epidemic.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Serving my Creator
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Reading, volunteering, traveling, and spending time with family.
What is your writing process?
I outline the plot and subplots, research (characters/setting/historical past), write, edit, edit, edit, edit, have others edit, edit again, pick out a cover page and FINALLY publish.
How do you approach cover design?
I browse through conceptual photographs to capture the essence of the story. Then I pick out just the perfect image for my cover page. Sometimes, I choose several photographs and have others vote on which one they like the best.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
I enjoy many kinds of contemporary/mainstream fiction because I can relate to the stories, settings, and characters. Historical fiction is another favorite genre of mine because I always learn something interesting about the past. Inspirational fiction encourages me to live life to its fullest and to encourage others to do the same. YA urban fantasy takes me to places I often write about, and Memoirs motivate me to leave behind a legacy for others to live by.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
Hmmmm. Probably Charlotte's Web. My father read it to to me as a child at bedtime every night, and I remember connecting with the main characters- Wilbur and Charlotte. I desperately wanted Wilbur to live and to stay on Zuckerman's farm.
What do you read for pleasure?
Young Adult Fiction, Historical Fiction, Memoirs, Nonfiction, Contemporary/Mainstream- Romance, Suspense/Mysteries.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Word of mouth through social media & freebies on Kindle.
Describe your desk
I don't have one. I type on my laptop wherever I go- a timeworn bench at the park, the passenger seat of our Jeep on a long drive to Florida, my parent's and in-law's house over Christmas break, my bed or comfy recliner at night, the local library, etc. Whenever I can write, I pull out my computer and work on either an existing or new chapter wherever that might be.
