My sister paints the covers (apart from one - still waiting for that one!).
Describe your desk
I don't have a desk: I sit in a chair in the middle of the room, laptop on my knee.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Scotland. In The Dumfries Detective Trilogy I've slipped in quite a few Scottish words. It's been popular.
When did you first start writing?
In my early twenties - many, many moons ago.
What's the story behind your latest book?
A Different Place To Die is my latest. I wanted a frantic chase, a desperate hunt to find the killer. Two people are dead in a stranger's house. The race is on to find the next house before the next couple die.
What are you working on next?
I've started the follow-up to A Different Place To Die.
Who are your favorite authors?
AA Milne, Philip Pullman, Graham Greene and many others.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I start with prize winners.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes, and it was terrible.
What is your writing process?
I've yet to write any book the same way. At the start it used be a certain number of words each day, then it was a certain number of hours. Now I don't do any counting, stopping when I've had enough.
