Interview with Kevin Glaser

Published 2015-04-16.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I provide consulting services and litigation support services daily. When not working I enjoy singing, songwriting, playing guitar, bicycling and exercising.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
While I don't necessarily remember the very first story I ever wrote, I do remember my very early writings. They were completed as grade school assignments and I remember receiving praise from my teachers after they read my work.
What is your writing process?
There is no single "best" way for me to write because it depends on the genre of book I'm writing. For "Inside the Insurance Industry" much of the content was based upon my personal knowledge and experiences. Writing "The Great Tompall: Forgotten Country Music Outlaw" involved many in-person and telephone interviews, as well as a significant amount of research before I even started writing.
How do you approach cover design?
I realize that book covers are one of the most important marketing tools relative to book sales. With that in mind, I give considerable thought to different options and then seek opinions from people I trust. I also make it a point to "sleep on it" and not rush into making a rash decision on the best cover design for my books.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
I enjoy all book genres but my tastes have changed somewhat as I get older. In my early years I enjoyed science fiction, fantasy, detective novels and stories about cowboys. These days I appreciate historical novels, biographies, and technical and business books.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
Describe your desk
My desk is generally organized and uncluttered at the start and end of each day. In between those times papers are strewn about across the entire desk surface. I feel I am most productive when I "start fresh" each day.
What's the story behind your latest book?
My most current book is "Inside the Insurance Industry - Third Edition," which is an update of the two prior editions of my book with the same name. However, perhaps the most interesting book I have published is "The Great Tompall: Forgotten Country Music Outlaw," which tells the life story of my uncle, country music icon Tompall Glaser. The story is based upon interviews with him and with friends and business associates who knew him best. It is beyond just a fascinating country music story - it is a fascinating story, period. Newspaper, magazine and radio program reviews have stated that this book is "top notch" and and reader comments have been very positive.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
My greatest joy when writing is to simply share what is inside my brain with others. No two people think about things in exactly the same way, and I enjoy sharing my unique perspective in a variety of areas.
What are you working on next?
I have several ideas for future books but have no firm deadline to move forward with my next book at this specific moment. In the meantime, I am finalizing a risk management product to be used by professional service providers to identify risks for businesses and individuals. I am also marketing a song that I wrote and recorded with the intention of selling it to a well-known country singer.
What can readers look forward to from you?
"Inside the Insurance Industry - Third Edition" has just been released as an eBook on Amazon and Smashwords. "The Great Tompall: Forgotten Country Music Outlaw" will be released soon in other formats, such as an eBook. It may also be released as a paperback with color pictures and possibly even a narrated book on CD.
Have you received any writing awards?
Yes! The nationally recognized Readers' Favorites has awarded me a 5-Star Review for Inside the Insurance Industry - Third Edition. See the full review at:
