Interview with Richard Whitten Barnes

Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
i grew up on the far north side of Chicago, a devoted Cubs fan. An indifferent student, I won a band scholarship to Michigan State University where I met my beautiful wife. As a chemistry major, I took a technical writing course, and got an A, but never thought about writing until after I retired, almost thirty years later.
Then, boredom sent me to an evening english class at Winthrop University with a thought towards getting my MFA. A course in short story writing disabused me of going forward with that. I would rather write Fiction!
What's the story behind your latest book?
WW1 veterans are in both my and my wife's families. Our fathers fought on opposite sides.
We are celebrating the 100th anniversary of that war, so I thought a novel set in that time would be popular.
ENEMIES is about two boys who fight on opposite sides in France and Belgium, become involved in an intrigue, then fifty years later meet by chance to untangle the unresolved dilemma.
