Interview with R Jacques

Describe your desk
Controlled Chaos! It's a very basic 1 tier, corner desk in a small bedroom. In front of me is two 21 inch monitors for my primary computer. To my left are a scanner/printer and my internet radio streaming computer. To my right is another computer I use for sound editing and web posting.
Where did you grow up?
I grew up near in Bellevue, Nebraska which is south of Omaha.
When did you first start writing?
I dabbled a bit with a short story back in 2010 but never completed it. I started writing again in the fall of 2015 and to date, I have completed 1 novella, 2 novels, and a few short stories.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
Having researched and talked to a few authors I determined that going the conventional route was way too much work. My goal isn't to be rich and famous. I just want to be able to publish and be read.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Watching characters grow in unexpected ways. When I create a character I have a notion of what they would be like, but when I get into the thick of writing, they can often get a mind of their own.
What are you working on next?
I have already completed the drafts of the first two novels in a series. I'm planning to begin writing the draft to the third in 2018. I have no working title for it yet. The story will expose the main characters to new environments and tie up a few loose ends from the first two novels.
Who are your favorite authors?
Larry Niven, Scott Sigler, all the various writers for the old Star Trek series.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
Kindle Fire
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Catching up on TV series, playing computer games.
What do you read for pleasure?
Sci-Fi and military fiction.
