Interview with Ray Perreault

When did you first start writing?
I started writing when I was in my teens, I would write poems and short stories. It was just a hobby for me back then and I never took it too seriously. I always enjoyed telling stories to people when they took the time to listen.
What's the story behind your latest book?
It’s a true account of how the main character, named John, grew up with a disabling illness. And where he found the courage to overcome the day to day obstacles that made him different and kept him from being like most everyone else...normal.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
My motivation grew out of my frustration in trying to publish the conventional way. I knew that my story and writing were good, but I was a new author and finding a publisher was very discouraging.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
With Smashwords my book was published everywhere very quickly, no rejections. Their website showed me how and all I had to do was put in the time.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Aside from writing itself, it is when people tell me that they read my book and enjoyed it.
What do your fans mean to you?
Besides making me feel good they let me know that my voice matters.
What are you working on next?
I am working on three children’s books and a sequel to A Life Without IX.
Who are your favorite authors?
I read more Steven King than anyone else, but I enjoy any author who can make my mind listen.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
New beginnings, getting out of bed always inspires me to look for new beginnings.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Doing the work that pays the bills comes first of course, the rest I decide as it comes.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I search for them. Sometimes by title, sometimes by subject. The internet is rich with words if you take the time to look.
