Interview with Reece Vita Asher

What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
My greatest joy in writing is finding a connection with readers and growing together from there.
What do your fans mean to you?
Oh, this is probably one of the most important questions to any writer. Fans give us everything. They support our imaginations as well as our pursuit to make a living doing what drives us to be the happiest. Without fans, we have words with no home.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
My daughter, my family, and new ideas showcasing no-bull women.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I have discovered some of my favorite books and authors simply by roaming the "halls" of Smashwords and Amazon. When I search for a physical copy at the bookstore, I allow my curiosity to drive. I wander from book covers to interesting titles, from young adult to sci-fi to history. Most importantly, I become limitless. And that is how I shop online, as well. Why limit yourself with specific niches when the perfect discovery could be a click or step away on a path less traveled?
What is your writing process?
My writing process is organic and, at times, full on chaotic. If too many ideas present themselves, I may begin writing three manuscripts at once. Of course, my ideal writing experience involves one storyline, an interesting heroine with a steamy male counterpart, and free afternoons to lose myself with them.
How do you approach cover design?
I shop for cover designs the way Carrie Bradshaw shops for shoes. My eyes are always darting from cover to cover. But I always make sure that a cover fits my storyline and characters. I loath covers that seemingly have nothing to do with the story inside. That is false advertising, and it stinks. A cover should make a promise to readers.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
'Word of mouth' is the most important marketing technique. Readers have so much power, but rarely realize just how crucial they are to the authors and books they love. Remember, you can make a difference! Your voice matters greatly to us.
Describe your desk
Oh... Oh, there could be a feral liger circling a jackalope under the twenty tons of randomness if I look carefully enough. Honestly, I have forsaken my poor desk for any surface with a clear square of space. However, I always hack into the wilderness of clutter soon enough and take back what's mine.
Why do you write novels, novellas, or novelettes?
I love to write novellas and novelettes because many readers often struggle for free time. As a mother, I sympathize with the need for books that fit into my schedule. While some readers have schedules similar to mine, others may read while commuting on a bus or during their lunch hours. My goal is to offer readers the same full experience as a novel without the stress of rushing through something that is meant to be fun and relaxing. They can fall into a world -and maybe fall in love with some new characters- before returning to the hearts that drive their real worlds.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
Indie authors are a terrific bunch of writers who never fail to extend a hand to one another, and really hone the craft of becoming a friend to their readers. Such positivity appeals to me. Also, within the indie experience I am able to explore new sub-genres of any length without restriction or fear of displeasing a large publisher. My only concern is to please my readers. With such a strong community of writers and passionate readers, I am constantly growing as a writer and as a person.
