Interview with

When did you first start writing?
All of our editors will have a different response to this question, but we all started writing early and reading even earlier in our lives. Our love for the written word and the authors who provide new worlds for us to escape to is what motivated us to create RhetAskew Publishing, a division of Rhetoric Askew LLC.
What's the story behind your latest book?
Our Anthology Askew series was our first project together. We wanted to help new authors navigate the sometimes choppy waters of the publishing industry. Our goal was to provide a platform where they could showcase their work, but it grew into much more. Now, Anthology Askew is produced regularly because our authors continue to surprise us with the excellent quality of their work and we can't wait to share it with the world.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Seeing writers grow into authors as we work together.
What do your fans mean to you?
Our Askewians are everything. Without them, we wouldn't need to be here. Thank you to all of our Askewians for helping us continue to have this incredible dream job. We couldn't do it without you.
What are you working on next?
We always have new projects in the works. Visit www.rhetoricaskew.com to see what workshops, events, and books are coming up in the Askewverse.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
This job!

We're living the dream being able to work anywhere we want with a wi-fi connection and read and work on these incredible books from these inspirational authors. Really... What else could we ask for?
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
We're all family focused, so when we aren't working with our family of authors we are definitely with our families and spending some time building that work-life balance.
What is your writing process?
We're all a bit different but we share some of the same key features in our writing process. We all focus on the story and want our characters to jump off the pages into the reader's minds and lives. Yeah... That might sound a bit over the top but that's what being Askew is all about.

We all believe in letting the characters tell us their story, we're just along for the ride. Of course, we have to beat the story into form and that usually requires an outline and all the other technical stuff, but the story has to hit the page first.
How do you approach cover design?
Our cover designer is also our Managing Editor, Dusty Grein. His process is very collaborative and he always discusses the project with the author to get a clear view of their vision. That's really at the core of all our Askew processes. We want the author to be thrilled with their finished product and they can't do that if they aren't involved in the process along the way.
What do you read for pleasure?
Everything! Literally. I'll read the cereal box in the morning while having breakfast. I just crave words and have to devour them. I also like food, hence the food analogy.
Describe your desk
Organized chaos in motion with a Deathstar shaped bluetooth speaker on the side because I can't focus without music.
