Interview with Rick D. Jolly

What motivated you to become an indie author?
I've always had a healthy imagination and wanted to see if I have what it takes to become a full-time writer. With the developing ebook technologies and growing market it seemed like the perfect time.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
It's great way to express myself and connect with people from all walks of life.
What are you working on next?
I have started a book of short stories geared toward an adult audience.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Thinking of what I should be writing down and taking photos of interesting scenery.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
I was in the fourth grade and wrote a short essay for a statewide contest. Mine was one of several chosen to represent my school, but didn't win.
What is your writing process?
An idea pops into my head and I write notes to use later. I tend to write a general outline and expand as I edit.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
Besides the little golden books, Stephen Kings "It" with the original cover still pops into my head from time to time.
What do you read for pleasure?
I like real life technology information. I'm still hoping to see hover cars before I die.
Describe your desk
A dinning table with a window view covered in notes and a Laptop and back-up drive.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Western North Carolina about an hour north of Charlotte, NC. My mother and father were both the youngest of eight siblings, so I had dozens of cousins ranging from my parents age to a few years younger than me. Mainly a rural area that favored family values and hard work as the standard way of life. I tend to say whats on my mind and mind what I say.
When did you first start writing?
I only seriously started in 2012. I have a scrapbook filled with ideas dating back twenty years.
