Interview with Ronald Hee

What motivated you to become an indie author?
I've now written two books. In each, I explained the motivation behind them. In 1,001 Things You Didn't Know Happened in April, I was just amazed, as an April baby, to note so many things did indeed happen in April. For The Trial of Pontius Pilate, it was during Easter 2015 when it hit me, what if he had been tried for ordering the death of Jesus? Perhaps inspiration will strike a third time!
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
It's getting feedback from readers that they've loved it, or were somehow touched or learned something. Writing is an act of creation. It's wonderful to see that it reaches people.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
In so many ways! I had no idea how to self publish until I stumbled upon Smashwords and tripped over Mark Coker! The deeper I got into the site, the more I came to knoew details like formating, marketing, and generating that TOC!
What are you working on next?
How to get rich as a writer? May take a while ...
Who are your favorite authors?
So many! I've always been reading, since I was knee high. I read widely too, I say I'm interested in the past (history), the present (thrillers and non fic) and the future (sci fi).
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
The bills.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Too much time on Facebook. Otherwise reading, watching documentaries. Boring but brainy.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Didn't start on ebooks until recently! Used to trawl second hand book stores for interesting reads. Then used to trawl the same for interesting e-reads! Now, I then to see what's downright quirky.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Gosh. That would have been when I was knee high. Used to write articles for school magazines. Which was only a few years ago, of course.
What is your writing process?
Research, scribble, write, repeat. Write, rewrite, rewrite again, repeat.
How do you approach cover design?
In my two books, i opted for very nice scans of paintings that told the story, yet are paintings not well known, and also royalty free. Then, I asked my more techno-design savvy niece to dress 'em up!

This is a quirky and unique take on the history of the world to today, all seen through events and peoples in the month of April, since the beginnings of recorded history. Each entry is explained in a short paragraph of 100 to 125 words, comprising not only traditional history, but also social history, the history of science, and a sad catalog of disasters, both natural and man-made. Enjoy!
