I follow a lot of my favorite paranormal romance and erotica writers on Twitter. When they have a new book coming out, I usually find out about it from their feeds. Also, friends are always recommending things for me to try on facebook.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
I was 9 years old, and I wrote a story about the Easter Bunny for school. It was supposed to be a nice Easter story, but somehow when I was writing it all sorts of weird sexual things got included. I didn't even fully understand what I was writing, since I was so young. I got in a lot of trouble for that story, and my parents were even called into the principle's office. I guess you could say my romance/erotica writing career started very early.
What is your writing process?
I write everyday, but at different times. I have a very strict schedule for myself, but I don't force myself to write if I'm really not feeling any inspiration that day. Sometimes, when I'm not feeling like I have much to say, I'll do a little sexual warmup, usually with my vibrator. After that, the thoughts just seem to come and come, pouring right onto the page without any restriction.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
When I was a teenager, I got into science fiction for a short time. I remember reading Dune and all the sequels at age 12. The sexual imagery in the later books frightened and excited me.
How do you approach cover design?
My husband helps, since he works as a graphic designer. I explain to him the concepts and themes, and how I want it to look--the image in my head. I don't always make him read my books, but sometimes I find that they help spice up our sex life.
What do you read for pleasure?
Erotica and paranormal romance mostly these days. I also read "LIterature" with a capital L, and that's where some of my writing style comes from, but I work hard and edit to try to make it very readable, not letting the prose get bogged down in flowery description that go on and on.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I have an old fashioned Kindle. Personally, I like the e-ink display.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
I haven't yet figured out how to market well. I have a twitter account, though, which has connected me some with other paranormal romance authors, and some readers.
Describe your desk
I often write at the library. Most often, I write in bed. Sometimes with my vibrator.
When did you first start writing?
At age 9.
What's the story behind your latest book?
I'd been reading a lot of paranormal romance books, along with some more 'literary' books. I had an idea that I could do my own small part in contributing to the genre by trying to work on various aspects of the common story and style that I though could be improved.
